The Behavioral Health Intake Specialist provides intake services to all new Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling clients.  They collaborate and support with team members to ensure a patient focused approach to care. As part of the Essential Functions for this role, the Behavioral Health Intake Specialist:

  • Receives and processes all new client intakes and referrals for Mental Health Counseling and Substance Use Counseling from within the agency as well as outside referrals
  • Manages client wait list for both Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling. Performs outreach to waitlist clients for scheduling via phone calls or mail
  • Verifies and enters client health insurance for Mental Health Counseling and Substance Use Counseling into client EMR and/or will link clients with the appropriate department to acquire health insurance
  • Works closely with the directors of Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling to develop processes and standards of care. Including but not limited to, linking high risk clients to a member of the psychiatric team for evaluation, referring high risk/ in crisis clients to the appropriate outside agency and deciding which clients should be made priority and/ or scheduled immediately
  • Ensures the placement of patients with appropriate providers based on specialty and credentialing parameters
  • Checks in/out patients into EMR; Verifies all patient demographics and healthcare personal information;  Updates patient photo for all new and annual visits

Qualified Candidate will have an Associate’s degree in Human Services or related field with two (2) years of experience working in patient services/programs or providing administrative support in a healthcare setting. Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) software (Medent strongly preferred) and medical terminology. Familiarity with computers and MS Office software (Outlook, Word) also required. Candidate must demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally, ability to type data and information accurately and completely, and ability to multitask. Attention to detail a must. Sensitivity toward cultural diversity, HIV/AIDS and lifestyle and addiction issues essential.
