The Harm Reduction Specialist assists with the harm reduction expansion initiative across the Evergreen Association. They will collaborate with the Harm Reduction Center team to facilitate Evergreen’s Drug User Health Coalition and expand roles for peers and patients. The Harm Reduction Specialist will coordinate and assist in conducting education and awareness raising opportunities, and partner with various Association departments to effectively implement the components of the harm reduction expansion initiative. As part of the essential functions of this role, the Harm Reduction Specialist:

· Helps maintain a comfortable and welcoming environment in Evergreen’s Harm Reduction Center, including directing patients to appropriate services

· Demonstrates commitment to and understanding of harm reduction approach

· Keeps up with trends in care for people who use drugs and shares updates supervisor when appropriate

· Builds base of patients and peers who may help meet program goals and develops leadership opportunities for them

· Assists in planning Harm Reduction events 

· Maintains a compassionate, positive, and respectful attitude toward people who use drugs and is committed to Evergreen’s approach to outstanding customer service

Qualified Candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and two (2) years of related, relevant experience organizing community initiatives and/or working with marginalized communities or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally, demonstrate familiarity with computers and MS Office software (Outlook, Word) and effective time management and organization skills. Sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, addiction and LGBT issues essential. Candidate must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and an insured, dependable car.
