The Medical Technician performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. They provide clinical, clerical, organizational and data reporting support to Harm Reduction Center staff. The Medical Technician collaborates and supports with team members to ensure a patient focused approach to care. As part of the essential functions of this role, the Medical Technician:

· Provides outstanding customer service while maintaining a compassionate, positive, and respectful attitude toward people who use drugs; Positively interacts with and supports the needs of patients in the program’s waiting area

· Prepares patients for provider visits by completing program intake

· Performs clerical duties that drive efficient patient flow

· Facilitates lab and diagnostic tests at the request of the ordering provider

· Assists with data entry, reporting, and scheduling using an EMR (Medent), NYSDOH’s AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS), and other electronic charting systems and databases

· Manages incoming calls for the Harm Reduction Center and ensures patients are connected to appropriate programs and staff

· Maintains inventory of program supplies and assists in keeping reception area cleanly

Qualified Candidate will have a High school diploma or equivalent, current valid CPR certification and one (1) year of experience in a healthcare practice. Medical Assistant Certification CMA (AAMA) strongly preferred. Familiarity with EMR system (Medent) strong preferred. Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally, demonstrate familiarity with computers and MS Office software (Outlook, Word) and effective time management and organization skills. Comprehension of medical terminology essential. Excellent customer service skills required. Sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, addiction and LGBT issues essential.

Required certification: CPR; CMA (AAMA) (preferred)
