The SEP Project Assistant assists with a research project focused on overdose risks and incidents of Syringe Exchange Program (SEP) participants by recruiting survey participants and conducting interviews related to substance use, overdose risk, and treatment experience.  The Project Assistant will also conduct outreach and education in the community about drug user health and harm reduction, and will assist with day-to-day operations of the SEP as time permits.

As part of the Essential Functions for this role, the SEP Project Assistant:

· Engages with patients of Evergreen’s SEP to assess their willingness to participate in research survey; explains the interview process and incentive for participation

· Conducts interviews and records survey results according to research guidelines established by the project’s funders

· Adheres to ethical guidelines for research conducted with human subjects, as required by project funders

· Assists SEP staff with tasks and activities to ensure the day-to-day programming operates smoothly

· Conducts community outreach to people who use drugs to recruit new participants and raise awareness of Evergreen’s services among the general public

Qualified Candidate will have a High School Diploma and personal experience related to substance use and ability to connect with and provide support to people who use substances.

Essential Requirements:

* Familiarity and comfort with the research population, people who use drugs, and knowledge of health and social issues facing this population

* Willingness to work in a non-judgmental manner and to support a harm reduction approach to services

* Basic computer skills, including ability to use MS Office software (Outlook, Word) and the internet for online trainings and to find information

* Commitment to protecting the confidentiality and privacy of Evergreen patients

* Sensitivity toward cultural diversity, chronic disease status (HIV, HCV), substance use, and lifestyle issues is essential

Job Type: Part-time (20 hours per week)

Required education: High School Diploma

Required experience: Experience related to substance use, providing support to people who use substances
