Chronic Hepatitis C virus infection is a long-term illness that occurs when the Hepatitis C virus remains in a person's body. If left untreated, HCV infection can last a lifetime and lead to serious liver problems, including cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), cancer of even death.

Symptoms

Persons with newly aquired HCV infection usually do not experience symptoms, or they have mild symptoms that are unlikely to prompt a visit to a healthcare professional. When symptoms do occur, they can include: fever, fatigue, dark urine, clay colored stool, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, joint pain and/or jaundice.
