SEPs have proven effective at reducing the transmission of blood-borne illness, especially HIV and Hepatitis C, among People Who Inject Drugs. They are also a place where substance users can access other health services.
► Do I need insurance to participate?
No. All SEP services are completely free. Linkage with some medical or mental health services may require insurance.
► Is it private and confidential?
Enrollment in the SEP is anonymous, which means we don’t collect identifying information about you, if you don’t want to provide it.

Yes—enrollment in an SEP provides you with the legal protection to possess new and used syringes; however SEP enrollment does not offer protection for charges due to possession of drugs or paraphernalia.
