Transgender Day of Visibility was created by trans activist Rachel Crandall-Crocke in 2009 as a day to celebrate and unite transgender people around the world. However, as rates of transphobic violence and discrimination have skyrocketed across the United States and the world in recent years, Rachel has asked us to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility differently:
“It’s not transgender people who need to be visible right now, so much as our allies. It’s easy to call yourself an ally. However, to really get out there for us, speak up for us, to write letters and educate your friends — that is something else. And that’s what we really need to focus on. That’s the only way we’re really going to change anything.” (them, 2021)
Evergreen is an unconditional ally to the transgender community, and we’re dedicated to making sure the transgender and nonbinary patients we serve have everything they need to be healthy, safe and well.
